Voice Alerts Version 2.0 is out

Hi Friends!!

Finally the new major Release of Voice Alerts is there!! You will notice that now the App has a new UI that allows you to do more with Voice Alerts:

- The background Alerts (From now on called “Passive Alerts”) are still there and you can configure them clicking on the Settings icon, that works just like before, but i have tried to optimise it so the user experience is better while reading emails, sms, and other events out loud.

- The new thing is the so called “Active Alerts”, Voice Alerts tracks the messages you receive (Email, SMS, Tweets) and allows you to read them out loud everytime… just click on an entry of the list and let it speak, to stop the alert, just shake the phone, so easy as that.

I am preparing a new website but by the moment, if you have some questions, you find a bug or just want to suggest some improvements, please send me an email, i really appreciate your feedback.

Voice Alerts updated to 1.8.1

Hi Friends,

I have just  released a new Version of Voice Alerts (1.8.1) with a bugfix that the users were requesting, i thank you all for your really helpful Feedback. This Bug was causing that the incoming calls were not being Alerted, now it should work just fine.

Also, i have improved the Email Alerts by integrating the jsoup library in the project, jSoup ist a java Library really handy when it comes to parse and extract elements of a , as they call it on the site, real-world HTML. With it, Voice Alerts can extract only the plain text and read it out loud skipping all the markup elements that are not so nice to hear…

I would be glad if you can comment about how you like now the Email filtering system, i believe i can improve it even more though.

Hope you enjoy this new update, do not hesitate on writing me an email with new ideas for the App, bugs that you find or possible improvements.

New icons!

Hi Voice Alerts users, the new update includes new designed icons and better integration and compatibility with bluetooth headsets, What do you think about them? Your feedback is always appreciated.

Sony Ericsson X10 Family updating to 2.1, i ask you for feedback

Hi Sony Ericsson X10, X10 Mini, X10 Mini Pro’s users, today i have read about this new

http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/29/android-2-1-starts-rolling-out-to-sony-ericsson-xperia-x10-line/

Many of you have being reporting some problems in Voice Alerts concerning the “Calls Alerts” (Specially the detecting of the caller ID) and the “Activation when connected to bluetooth Headset”. I have being debugging and trying to fix the problem with the Caller ID, and believe there is some kind of customization in the Contacts API from Sony Ericsson that does not allow the App to get the name of the caller.

I hope this update to Android 2.1 solves the problem so i will be really really thankful if you guys can send me an email about how Voice Alerts is working after you update to 2.1.

Can you please do me this favour? Thanks! It will help me a lot to make Voice Alerts even better!

Thanks for your support and feedback, and….. enjoy your update!! now you can film on HD, that’s great news!

Voice Alerts Update 1.7.0

Hi Android Lovers!

I have just update Voice Alerts with a couple of new Features you ask me to implement, those improvements are:

- NIght Mode: You can specify an Interval within the alerts will be deactivated, this is to prevent Voice Alerts to work while you are sleeping.

- Repeat SMS and EMAIL alerts, you asked for it and now you have it, now you can specify Voice Alerts to keep alerting you about new SMS and emails in an Interval that you specify. This only applies the “Show Notification” read content mode.

I hope i will release soon a major update with the calendar suppport, i know you will be glad to have that.

So stay tuned, and send me an email with your questions, ideas, bugs, etc….

Regards, Alex.

Calendar Support comming soon

Great news for a lot of users that have been suggesting me to extend Voice Alerts to support the android calendar. Soon i will be releasing a new big update for the full version so your android will alert you the incoming events stored in your google calendar.

You would ask yourselfs why is this coming so late, why i have not implemented already if it is such a usefull feature? Well, for those of you who does not know it, google has not released the Calendar API for android yet. The reason is probably that the API could have been subject of changes in the past versions of Android, 1.6, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2. In the last months there has been a lot of movement in the Android code repositories, so they are probably waiting till everything is well design and then release the API to the developers, well documented and everything we are expecting (as soon as they release a API they cannot modify it, so better design it correctly…).

Although this API is not publicly there, Android is an open-source system, that means that everybody can see the code on the repositories, so you can figure out how everything works in the background and implement some functionalities above this.

This new update will be a little bit experimental, maybe it does not work correctly in all devices, and as i only own a Nexus One, i will only guarantee that is working with it, maybe i can borrow some other devices to test, but i dont promise that it will be working for all of you guys, till google releases the API and the documentation, maybe with the next version of Android (3.0 gingerbread).

Stay tuned!
